Admission requirements

For admission to the Master's distance learning programme in Psychology (M.Sc.), a basic bachelor's degree in Psychology (B.Sc./180 Credit Points) is required.

The bachelor's programme must be academically relevant and aligned with the requirements of the professional associations German Association of Psychologists (BDP) and the German Society for Psychology (DGP), covering the following content: Psychological Diagnostics (6 Credit Points), Statistics (6 Credit Points), Research Methodology (6 Credit Points). Graduates whose initial degree in psychology does not meet these requirements may be admitted through a pre-semester that precedes the master's programme. This pre-semester includes the necessary modules: Psychological Diagnostics (6 Credit Points), Statistics (6 Credit Points), Research Methodology (6 Credit Points).

The Master's programme in Psychology (M.Sc.) at HFH · Hamburger Fern-Hochschule is designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge and skills in psychological research and application. You will earn the academic degree Master of Science in Psychology and qualify as a psychologist.

In the first semester, you will deepen your basic knowledge of social psychology and cognitive psychology, as well as psychological diagnostics. In addition, basic principles of intervention and counselling will be covered. In the second semester, you will gain further insights into statistical procedures, methods, evaluation, and publication in psychological research. Here, you also have the option to choose one of the two focuses: Health or Work and Education. In the third semester (for part-time students: in the second and third semesters), you will expand specialized knowledge through an additional optional module. Furthermore, you will continue studying your chosen focus. The fourth semester includes a six-week internship for the practical application of your knowledge and the Master's colloquium to prepare for the Master's thesis. In the fourth or fifth semester (full-time or part-time), you will write your Master's thesis, accompanied by a colloquium.

The programme enables you to work in various psychological fields, such as psychological counselling, diagnostics, or support in educational and work contexts, as well as in healthcare. It also prepares you for management positions and doctoral opportunities. A particular focus is on individualized support through a virtual study centre and regional study centres.
