Admission requirements
If you want to be admitted to the distance learning programme in Psychology at FernUni Hagen, you must submit an officially certified copy of a university entrance qualification that is valid in NRW.
- The university entrance qualification is the certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). Alternatively, the certificate of a completed university degree with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters is also recognized. Excluded from this regulation are degrees from universities of public administration and art colleges.
In addition, an online self-assessment is mandatory.
Access without Abitur is possible under the following conditions:
- Master craftsmen or similarly qualified individuals can enroll in the Psychology distance learning programme at FernUni. Comparable qualifications include advanced training as industrial foremen, IHK business administrators, and state-certified business economists.
- Professionally Qualified individuals with professional aptitude can also enroll in Psychology at FernUniversität. Prerequisites include a completed apprenticeship of at least two years and subsequent professional experience of at least three years in the training profession. They can then enter the Psychology distance learning programme through a trial course or an entrance examination.
Psychology Distance Learning at FernUni Hagen
The distance learning program in Psychology at FernUni Hagen, the only German state distance learning university with university status, qualifies students for activities in intervention planning, program evaluation, psychological counseling, as well as in educational, administrative, and business organizations, and in the health and social sector.
Study alongside work: In addition to the distance learning program in Psychology, FernUni also targets employed individuals with vocational training, parents, conscripts or civilian service volunteers, first and second degree students, and distance learners abroad.
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology Study Content
The Psychology program is modular in structure. It is divided into three study phases: Introduction with 2 modules, Fundamentals and Research Practices (5 modules), and Application and Minor (4 modules). The modules in detail:
- M1 Introduction to Psychology, Methods and Techniques of Scientific Work
- M2 Methods of Empirical Social Research, Statistics, and Computer-Aided Data Analysis
- M3 General Psychology and Biological Foundations
- M4 Social Psychology
- M5 Developmental Psychology
- M6 Test Construction and Practice of Psychological Research
- M7 Differential Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Diagnostics
- M8 Work and Organizational Psychology
- M9 Educational Psychology
- M10 Community Psychology
- M11 Non-Psychological Elective Module
In addition, subject participation hours, a job-oriented internship, and the bachelor's thesis must be completed.
Prior examination achievements from other study programs may be recognized.
Duration of Study: Psychology Studies Possible Part-Time
The program can be completed both as a full-time study, with a standard period of study of 6 semesters, and as a part-time study (12 semesters). A total of 180 ECTS points are awarded, which corresponds to approximately 5400 working hours.
The weekly workload is approximately 38 to 40 hours for full-time students, while part-time students must allocate around 19 hours per week for the Psychology program.
Tuition and Course Fees
Currently, FernUni does not charge tuition fees. Apart from a low student union fee (11 EUR), so-called course fees must be paid.
The amount of course fees depends on the number of semester credit hours (SWS) of a course. One SWS costs 20 EUR per semester. A module with an average of 8 SWS costs 160 EUR. So, with two modules, the total cost per semester is just over 300 EUR.
