Admission requirements
For the degree program Special Needs Pedagogy and Inclusive Education, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
General university entrance qualification
University of Applied Sciences entrance qualification
Passed master craftsman examination
Middle school leaving certificate (at least a secondary school leaving certificate) and a qualified completion of a recognized vocational training program of at least 3 years, which demonstrates an average overall or final grade of 2.5 or better (if these grades are not specified, the arithmetic mean of the individual subject grades applies)
Completion of a professional development course of at least 400 hours, a technical college, or a vocational or administrative academy*
Final examination in a state-recognized training occupation followed by at least 2 years of professionally related work experience related to the degree program and passing a separate university entrance examination*
Qualified social pedagogical childcare workers without Abitur can be admitted to the university entrance qualification examination (HZB examination) after two years of professionally related work experience and start their studies directly as guest students
* according to the Regulation on access for vocationally qualified individuals to universities in the state of Hesse
More detailed information on specific qualifications is provided upon request. Applicants who do not meet the stated requirements can initially participate in the study as guest students if they have been admitted to the HZB examination.
Foreign qualifications must be proven equivalent for admission purposes.

Special Education and Inclusive Education is an interdisciplinarily designed professional field with societal and social policy relevance. It is a profession and a field of work that can be located between pedagogy and medicine. In the field of Special Education and Inclusive Education, there is still a great need for skilled professionals. Graduates of the course offer a wide range of competencies and skills acquired for working with people in special life situations.
The Bachelor's degree programme "Special Education and Inclusive Education" (B.A.) is designed as an 8-semester (online) distance learning course aimed at enabling students to act competently in the field of Special Education and Inclusive Education. You acquire knowledge of theoretical and methodological foundations and develop qualifications in the fields of special education, inclusion, sociology, social psychology, and medicine. In addition, students engage with special education methods and intervention forms. You learn about relevant laws and sharpen your skills in diagnostics and counseling.
During your studies, you can also choose your personal, professionally oriented focus to further deepen your skills.

Course of Studies
At the DIPLOMA University, you have the opportunity to study the Bachelor's degree programme Special Education and Inclusive Education in one of three variants: as an online course, as on-site distance learning, or as on-campus studies.
The (online) distance learning course at the DIPLOMA University is designed according to the "blended learning" principle. This means that you work on the study contents with the help of study booklets and attend seminars. These seminars usually take place on 12 to 14 Saturdays per semester - in some cases also during the week in the evening. In the online course, these take place as live online seminars. You can also take your exams online or at an examination centre of your choice. In the on-site distance learning, you attend your real presence seminars and exams at your chosen study centre - in Leipzig.
Costs & Start of Studies
The (online) distance learning course at the DIPLOMA University starts every year in the summer semester (April) and winter semester (October) of a year. The start of the studies is - after individual assessment - also possible at any other time.
The on-campus studies start once a year in the winter semester (October).
