These are the admission requirements for the Master's program in Educational Leadership

We offer the Master's program in Educational Leadership in a shortened 60 ECTS variant, which lasts 2 semesters for full-time study. A first degree with a minimum final grade of "satisfactory" is required.

Depending on the extent of your degree, you must also demonstrate professional experience:

  • If your first degree is 180 ECTS, you must take courses worth 30 ECTS additionally and demonstrate at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Alternatively, you can demonstrate at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • If your degree is 210 ECTS, you must demonstrate at least 1 year of qualified work experience. This work experience should have been gained after your studies.
  • If your degree is 240 ECTS, which is often the case with many diploma degrees, you do not need to demonstrate work experience.

Foreign applicants must also prove their German language skills, for example, through TestDaF, DSH, Telc, or ÖSD.

The master's programme at IU International University is modular. A module generally consists of 5 credit points (ECTS) and concludes with an examination, such as an exam or a written assignment. You complete your master's degree step by step – and even largely determine when you want to complete each module.

In full-time studies, you can structure your study plan as follows, for example:

  • 1st Semester: Professionalization of leadership in educational fields, diversity-sensitive leadership and organization of educational institutions, conversation management, consultation, mediation, quality management in education, research methodology, project: Challenges in leadership in educational fields
  • 2nd Semester: Seminar: Professional self-reflection in the context of megatrends in education and counseling, elective module A, master's thesis

As a specialization, you can choose one of these focuses, for example: Building and developing digital structures in educational and counseling institutions, diversity-sensitive leadership, promotion of resilience, media and communication, labor law, diversity-oriented organizational development.

Study Concept: How the part-time study Leadership in Education at IU works

You can tailor the online study Leadership in Education at IU International University to fit your life and daily routine as best suits you. For example, you can choose from one of 3 study models: In the full-time programme, you need a total of 2 semesters to complete your master's degree, which is 12 months. In part-time programme I, you study for 3 semesters. Or you can opt for part-time programme II and take 4 semesters to complete your master's degree.

You will receive study materials from IU with each module enrollment as printed study booklets. All materials are also available to you digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of a lesson. Depending on the module, the study materials are supplemented with podcasts, live tutorials, and video content in the form of so-called shortcasts. You can access the IU Interactive Books through the practical Learn-App of IU.

In many modules, virtual lectures are also offered, allowing you to interact interactively with your peers and lecturers.

Particularly convenient and flexible is the option to take module exams in the form of online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week, 24 hours a day – whenever you feel best prepared for the exam, for example in construction. Additionally, we operate about 40 exam centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where you can also take your exams in a traditional onsite setting.
