Details
The bachelor's programme "Early Childhood Education" (B.A.) is designed as a professional integrated distance learning programme for educators who have completed the traditional vocational training and who are or have been working professionally in the system of early childhood education facilities.
The target groups are educators who aim for professionalization in early childhood education, but cannot undertake a full-time presence study programme due to family reasons or other issues. Another target group is so-called "career changers" who have been working in related professions and want to further qualify in the field of early childhood education based on a completed bachelor's degree. These groups are offered the opportunity to obtain an academic degree while integrating their profession without interrupting their work for several years. This meets the demand for permeability in the systems, combined with a comprehensive professionalization of the specialists in educational and care facilities.
Duration and Contents of the ProgrammeThe programme lasts for seven semesters, with the bachelor's thesis being written in the final semester. An additional eighth semester can enable access to the master's programme.
The majority of the programme (about 75 percent) is covered through study books and special online offerings. Additionally, there are project phases in which the acquired knowledge is to be implemented and tested in everyday professional life. The professional environment of the students is deliberately used as an additional learning setting to optimize the transfer of theory into practice. In the two-day face-to-face phases, which are attended once a month during the semester (Friday and Saturday), the necessary examinations must also be completed.
The programme "Early Childhood Education" (B.A.) is offered as a professionally integrated distance learning programme with face-to-face phases. The study achievements are assessed according to the ECTS system. A total of 180 ECTS credits must be achieved. In an optional eighth semester, students have the opportunity to receive state recognition as a certified social pedagogue through a supervised practical semester. Through this supervised practical unit with a subsequent colloquium, an additional 30 ECTS credits are obtained, thus enabling the possibility of continuing to a master's programme.
The programme is structured in a modular way, with three to five modules belonging to a thematically overarching study area.
The study areas are structured as follows:
Organization, Law and Profession Scientific Foundations and Methodology Didactics of Early Childhood Education Educational Areas Cross-cutting Qualifications
