- 3 possible specializations, such as Applied Process Engineering or Sustainability
- more than 20 elective modules in the elective area
- including a practical phase, professional experience can be credited
- university and non-university prior achievements can be recognized
These are the requirements for the Bachelor's in Food Process Engineering
For the B.Eng. in Food Process Engineering at Wilhelm Bücher University, there are various access options:
Access option No. 1: You have the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or the subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification.
Access option No. 2: You have a university admission qualification recognized as equivalent by the Hessian Ministry of Culture (e.g. a master's degree or a qualification as a state-certified technician).
Access option No. 3: Studying as an auditor: You start your guest study at our university without the three mentioned accesses and after 2 semesters of achievement, you take the University Entrance Examination (HZP). To do this, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You have completed a vocational training of at least two years regulated by the Vocational Training Act, the Crafts Code, by federal or state law in a field related to the desired course of study.
- You have subsequently worked for at least two years on a full-time basis in a field related to the desired course of study.
If you aim for a course of study that is not related to the completed training or professional activity, then the knowledge acquired through training and professional activity must be expanded or deepened by qualified further training with a scope of at least 400 hours in a field related to the desired course of study.
After successful University Entrance Examination (HZP), we will change your status from auditor to regular student.

Your Bachelor's degree program in Food Processing Engineering at WBH is structured in a modular way. You will study thematically closed subject areas (modules) to which credit points are assigned according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The number of credit points assigned to each module depends on the scope of the module and the associated workload. All credit points you earn will be credited to you, and you will receive documentation of this. Your achievements are therefore comparable and recognised – internationally as well.
The structure of the degree program is as follows:
- 1st Semester: Mathematics I, Introduction to Natural Sciences Engineering Fundamentals, Basics of Computer Science, Basics of Business Administration and Legal Fundamentals, Introduction Project for Engineers
- 2nd Semester: Mathematics II, Natural Sciences Engineering Fundamentals, Introduction to Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Communication and Management
- 3rd Semester: Technical Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics with Laboratory, Measuring Technology, Logistics and Material Flow Technology, Physical Chemistry
- 4th Semester: Control Engineering with Laboratory, Food Science with Pilot Plant, Microbiology of Food, Heat and Mass Transfer
- 5th Semester: Food-Specific Analytics with Laboratory, Mechanical Processing Engineering, Food Technology, Packaging and Packaging Machines
- 6th Semester: Elective Area I-III Elective Module 1, Elective Area I-III Elective Module 2, Simulation of Food Processing Processes with Laboratory, Engineering Project
- 7th Semester: Elective Area I-III Elective Module 3, Elective Area I-III Elective Module 4, Bachelor's Thesis and Colloquium
