Admission requirements
Teaching language: German. A university-level entrance qualification is combined with a recognised nursing background. In detail:
- With higher education entrance: general or subject-specific higher education entrance certificate, or university of applied sciences entrance; equivalent foreign school-leaving certificate is accepted; plus a completed, state-recognised nursing qualification.
- Without Abitur: admission via recognised professional advancement (e.g. Fachwirt/in, Betriebswirt/in, Meister/in, Erzieher/in) or via completed vocational training plus relevant work experience, followed by a university aptitude route or provisional study (Probestudium).
- Admission with foreign qualifications: international school and nursing diplomas can be recognised if they are comparable to the German requirements. Documented equivalence is necessary for both the school certificate and the professional nursing qualification.
Required German proficiency (for non-native speakers) — provide one of the following:
- DSH-2 (German language test for university entry)
- TestDaF with level 4 in all parts
- Proof of German at C1 level (CEFR)
Recommended: English at B2 (CEFR) for specialist literature. The programme is accredited (internal accreditation, 2023–2031) and ZFU-approved (No. 1152623c). One short in-person seminar day in Stuttgart is scheduled; plan travel accordingly when studying from abroad.
Personal requirements
Distance study from abroad requires strong self-management. Expect around 22 hours per week of self-study at a standard pace, alongside assignments and online exams. You will benefit if you:

What will you study in the Care Pedagogy (B.A.) at AKAD University?

Core topics include General Didactics and Subject Didactics in Nursing and Health, the Planning of Teaching-Learning Situations and Curriculum Development, and how to Assess, Examine and Evaluate learning outcomes in vocational training.
You build a nursing-science and medical base to teach evidence-informed care. Modules cluster around Nursing Sciences and Theory, Methods and Instruments of Professional Nursing, Process-oriented Nursing Interventions and Medical Fundamentals with clinical pathology for teaching practice.
Communication, guidance and ethics run throughout. You cover Health Counselling, Family and Patient Education, Learning Counselling and Coaching, Transcultural Competence in Health and Social Care, and Ethics – all geared towards learner-centred vocational education.
Research, quality and organisation underpin classroom practice. You work on Methods of Empirical Research, Project Management, Teamwork, Change Management and Collaboration, and the cooperation between Learning Venues in Nursing (school–practice partnerships).
Electives let you specialise, for example in Praxisanleitung (practice facilitation in clinical placements), Digital Technologies and Learning Methods, Evidence-based Nursing Practice, Nursing and Health from a Transcultural Perspective, Nursing Services Management, Nursing Advice or rethinking nursing education.
Applied elements are embedded: a supervised practical project connects theory and your workplace, and you conclude with a Bachelor’s thesis. What does the Care Pedagogy (B.A.) cost?
AKAD offers three monthly plans matching the study pace. Over the standard duration, total programme costs are in the five-figure euro range and can be paid in monthly instalments. A one-time exam/administration fee of €960 applies in addition to tuition.
Indicative totals by track (regular prices): Sprint 36 months at €337 per month ≈ €13,092 in total including the one-time fee; Standard 48 months at €285 per month ≈ €14,640 in total; Stretch 72 months at €203 per month ≈ €15,576 in total. Prices are charged in euros; monthly instalments help you budget if you study while working.
Time buffers are included: free extensions of 12 months (Sprint), 9 months (Standard) or 3 months (Stretch) reduce the risk of extra fees if life gets busy. Potential extra costs to consider from abroad are travel for the single on-site day in Stuttgart and any optional workshops. Study materials and online exams are included in tuition.
What careers and recognition does the Care Pedagogy course offer?
You earn a 180-ECTS Bachelor of Arts aligned with the Bologna framework, enabling international comparability and access to master’s studies. The programme is accredited (valid until 31/03/2031) and AKAD University is state-recognised in Germany. ZFU approval confirms the distance-learning quality assurance specific to Germany.
With a pedagogical nursing degree, you qualify for roles in vocational nursing education and training, clinical education and health education. Typical paths include:

- You want an internationally comparable Bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) via flexible distance learning.
- You aim to teach or coordinate training in nursing schools, hospitals or long-term care providers.

- You need online exams and asynchronous study, with the ability to learn from outside Germany.
