You can enroll in the Bachelor's distance learning programme in Gerontology at IU International University (IU) if you provide us with your A levels (general higher education entrance qualification), your technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur), or a subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
Alternatively, you can also enroll without A levels. Studying without A levels at IU is possible under the following conditions:
- You have successfully completed an advanced training course, for example, a training course to become a state-certified business economist.
- Or you have completed a vocational training, for example, training as an office clerk. Following your training, you have worked for at least 3 years in this profession on a full-time basis. If your training does not match the subject matter of the distance learning programme in Gerontology, you first complete a trial course before being regularly enrolled.

You can adjust the online Gerontology studies at IU International University to fit your life and daily routine as it suits you best. For example, you can choose from 3 study models: In the full-time programme, it takes 6 semesters, a total of 36 months, to complete your Bachelor's degree. In part-time study I, you study for 8 semesters until graduation. Or you can opt for part-time study II and take 12 semesters to complete your Bachelor's.
With each module registration, you receive study materials in printed form from IU. All materials are also available digitally. The IU Interactive Books are innovative learning scripts enriched with video clips and quiz questions at the end of each lesson. Depending on the module, study materials may include podcasts, live tutorials and video content in the form of shortcasts. You access the IU Interactive Books through the convenient IU Learn app.
Many modules also offer virtual lectures where you can interactively engage with your classmates and instructors.
One particularly practical and flexible feature is the option to take module exams through online exams. You can take an online exam 7 days a week, 24 hours a day - whenever you feel best prepared for the exam, such as in construction preparation. Additionally, we operate about 40 exam centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland where you can also take your exams in the traditional way.
