  • For admission, you need a successful completion of the Bachelor's degree in Nursing Management (B.A.) or a similar degree program.
  • Applicants with other Bachelor's degrees can study the Master's in Applied Gerontology (M.A.) with a re-qualification (preparatory course).

Details

The Applied Gerontology (M.A.) programme focuses on the field of health and social care, deepening students' existing knowledge in this area. At the same time, it provides the necessary understanding of processes and needs in old age and aging societies. Students gain in-depth knowledge of age-specific characteristics in the health sector as well as the key physical and cognitive changes associated with aging. Graduates will achieve:

  • Knowledge of care structures, legal frameworks (social welfare, residential and care law), and economic aspects relevant to the care of older people.
  • Management knowledge and practical methodological skills to address the challenges of an aging workforce.
  • Basic knowledge to independently read, evaluate, and apply scientific publications in the practice of healthcare management.
  • A deeper understanding of the needs of older people and are empowered by ethical discourse to advocate for the interests of older people in society in terms of empowerment.

Participants can choose from various elective modules such as prevention and mental health in old age, sports and travel in old age, aging and technology, housing in old age, urban development, migration, and global aging.

The distance learning programme lasts for 24 months and requires a weekly commitment of 30 hours. Graduates will gain extensive knowledge in applied gerontology and will be qualified for roles in this field.

The location-, time-, and semester-independent teaching concept with various didactic materials offers this target group maximum flexibility to achieve their desired qualification goals. The programme is aimed at individuals with a bachelor's degree in nursing management from APOLLON University as well as graduates of a bachelor's degree in gerontology or a similar programme at another university.
