The Master's programme in Clinical Gerontopsychology at the Chemnitz University of Technology is a part-time offering specifically tailored to the increasing demand for professionals in the psychological care of elderly people. The demographic development in Germany is leading to a growing need for specialized knowledge in the field of gerontopsychology, particularly in the counseling and care of elderly individuals facing specific health and psychological challenges.
The programme consists of 14 modules that provide students with both theoretical and practical competencies. Content includes, among other things, the study of disorders and diseases specific to older age, diagnostic methods, and psychotherapeutic approaches. The study programme combines on-site phases, online offerings, and self-study sections and is conducted in small supervised study groups.
Graduates of the programme gain a comprehensive understanding of the needs of older people and are able to provide expert, age- and disorder-appropriate psychological care. Career opportunities exist in clinical work, counseling, and research. The programme is designed to be flexible to ensure compatibility with work and family commitments.
