Who is the Health Psychology & Medical Pedagogy degree suitable for?

The degree appeals to you if you want to acquire psychological and pedagogical skills in healthcare. It is suitable for you if you want to study alongside work or simultaneously with vocational training – for example as a career starter, as a professional with work experience in the social, health, or education sectors, or as a lateral entrant with an interest in prevention, health promotion, or health education. You are particularly well suited if you wish to work later in health management, consultancy, educational institutions, or prevention work and value an interdisciplinary degree with flexible time and study models.

What admission requirements apply?

For admission to the Bachelor's degree programme in Health Psychology & Medical Pedagogy at FOM University, various access routes apply:

• (Advanced) school leaving certificate: A general university entrance qualification or a university of applied sciences entrance qualification entitles you to direct admission.
• Professional qualification without school leaving certificate: A completed, recognised vocational training and at least three years’ work experience following completion are required.
• Alternatively: An advanced training qualification (for example as a business administrator, master craftsman/woman) also enables admission.
• Employment during studies: You must currently be employed (full-time or part-time) or be undertaking vocational training, an internship, a traineeship or a voluntary social year. Dual study models are also possible.
• Consultation: Not covered? FOM reviews alternative access routes on a case-by-case basis – for example within the framework of the "Study into the Job" programme if you cannot provide evidence of current employment.

Personally, you should have an interest in health psychological and pedagogical issues, demonstrate motivation for interdisciplinary thinking, and be willing to actively engage in prevention and educational work. Important qualities include communication skills, teamwork, openness to digital learning formats, as well as self-responsibility and organisational skills to reconcile study and work. Prior knowledge in the health or social sector is helpful but not a mandatory requirement.

What content and skills does the degree programme impart?

In the degree programme Health Psychology & Medical Education (B.A.), you will acquire in-depth knowledge at the intersection of psychology, pedagogy and medicine. You will engage intensively with the psychological processes of health behaviour, prevention, as well as the promotion of individual and societal health. A special focus is placed on the conveyance of health-related content and the target group-appropriate design of educational offerings. You will analyse practice-oriented case studies, plan prevention projects and develop measures for sustainable health promotion.
