First of all, it should be noted: There is no pure distance learning programme in Germany that leads to a state examination. That's understandable: Would you want to be operated on by a doctor who completed their exam through distance learning?
However, what does exist is a variety of degree programmes that train and further educate professionals in the healthcare sector. And in general: Why go through the stress of a medical degree when you can enter the healthcare industry without a state examination? Why become a doctor when you can also manage a practice or a hospital?
Here I present to you a range of degree programmes in healthcare that you can all complete as distance learning courses, part-time and from home, all without numerus clausus (NC). Furthermore, I will introduce you to the best universities and colleges in the field of health sciences.

Distance Universities in the Medical and Health Sector
The most well-known distance university, and at the same time the only distance university, is perhaps the FernUni Hagen. However, the university does not offer distance learning programmes for the healthcare sector. Instead, there are some public universities and plenty of private universities of applied sciences that offer relevant degree programmes. Here is an overview of the most important ones:
Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University Kaiserslautern-Landau: Although Technische Universität Kaiserslautern is not a distance university because it mainly offers on-campus degree programmes, it has been offering further education distance learning programmes and certificate courses for many years through its Distance and Independent Studies Center (DISC), including in the field of natural sciences.
Zentrum für Fernstudien im Hochschulverbund: The ZFH is a scientific institution of the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and Saarland. The institution cooperates with 19 universities of applied sciences in Germany and conducts distance learning programmes and certificate courses in the field of natural sciences.
IST University for Management: Located in Düsseldorf, the IST University is a private university of applied sciences that offers distance learning programmes, among others, in the fields of fitness & health. For example, the Bachelor's distance learning programme in Health Management, which is also offered in a dual variant.
IU International University: IU is the largest private distance university in Germany with over 20,000 students. The university continuously expands its range of study programmes in the field of health and medicine. German University for Prevention and Health Management: Located in Saarbrücken, DHfPG is a private university that offers Bachelor's and Master's programmes in the field of sports and fitness. The Bachelor's programmes are dual programmes, meaning they are combined with on-the-job training.
APOLLON University of Health Sciences: Based in Bremen, the private APOLLON University offers Bachelor's and Master's distance learning programmes in healthcare, such as the Bachelor's in Health Economics. Additionally, the university offers numerous certificate courses, now also through its APOLLON Academy, where doctors can partially earn CME points.
Fresenius University: Fresenius University is one of the largest private universities in Germany. Through its onlineplus department, the university has been digitalizing its degree programmes for several years, offering, for example, the Bachelor's distance learning programme in Health Management. Additionally, the university offers numerous certificate courses, particularly in healthcare policy.
