The distance learning course is aimed at professionals who already have experience in healthcare, nursing, pharmaceutical companies or supply management and wish to take on leadership roles in the future. Typical participants are specialists with a completed first degree in health, social or economic fields as well as career changers with solid professional experience who want to expand their skills in digitalisation, controlling and management.
What admission requirements do you have to meet?
To be admitted to the Master's degree programme in Healthcare Management (M.A.) at Hochschule Fresenius, you have several options:
- With a completed first degree: A bachelor's, diploma or magister degree in a relevant subject with at least 180 ECTS credits is required.
- With first degree and professional experience: If you want to take the master's as an advanced course, you need a first university degree (at least 180 ECTS) and at least one year of qualified professional experience in healthcare or related fields.
- Without university studies: You can also be admitted without a first degree if you have completed vocational training and can prove at least two years of relevant professional experience, hold a university entrance qualification and have passed an aptitude test at the university. Additionally, a training certificate, proof of professional experience and a letter of motivation are required.
In addition to the formal requirements, you should bring personal prerequisites:
- A strong interest in health economics, management and digitalisation in healthcare
- Experience in healthcare or related areas (e.g. controlling, nursing, hospital administration, social management)
- Communication skills and the ability to approach complex problems in a solution-oriented way
- Self-organisation, self-motivation and perseverance for a part-time distance learning course
- Secure German language skills (language of instruction is German)

In the distance learning programme Management in Healthcare (Master of Arts) at Hochschule Fresenius, you deepen your methodological and leadership skills specifically tailored to the healthcare sector. Core subjects include health economics, controlling, digitalisation, and care management. How is the distance learning programme structured and organised?
The Master's degree Management in Healthcare is designed as a fully flexible distance learning programme. The standard period of study is 4 to 8 semesters (24–48 months), depending on your individual time management. You can start monthly.
- Start your studies anytime: You can begin on the 1st of any month and pace your learning according to your life situation.
- Online learning platform: You complete the modules independently via the digital campus system studynet, with access to study magazines, video lectures, interactive exercises, and an online library.
- Self-study with structured support: Personal study coaches and experienced lecturers accompany you throughout the entire programme. Webinars, online seminars (approx. 125 teaching hours), and a two-day attendance seminar (14 hours, approximately in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, or Munich) complement the offer.
- Examinations: Great flexibility through online exams, open-book exams, term papers, and presentations. Attendance requirements are greatly reduced and limited to one compulsory seminar.
- Individual specialisation: Three elective modules enable you to tailor your studies to your own career goals.
- Graduation: After successfully completing all modules, including the empirical research project and Master's thesis, you will receive the state-recognised degree Master of Arts (M.A.).
