Admission requirements
Undergraduate studies (university/college) in any subject.
At least one year of work experience afterwards (internships, employment, projects). This work experience should relate to the completed study programme or include media practical experience.
Very good English language skills are required but do not need to be proven.
Details
The Master's programme in Visual and Media Anthropology at Media University offers a comprehensive education in the production of ethnographic and documentary films, as well as in the application of immersive 360° technologies. The programme is designed for students with a background in film, photography, journalism, or related fields, providing knowledge in the ethically correct production of audio-visual documentaries, mainly in the regions of Asia, Africa, Europe, North and Latin America, as well as in indigenous communities.
1st Semester: Visual Anthropology, Media Anthropology
2nd Semester: Basics and Varieties of Ethnographic Film Production, Communication/Mediascapes, Applied Visual and Media Anthropology
3rd Semester: Internship, Film or Media Project
4th Semester: Examination Modules
The programme includes its own ethnographic field research supervised in colloquia, as well as two on-campus workshops in Berlin on camera technology and 360-degree filmmaking. Students also learn how to create VR content and use virtual reality headsets. Career opportunities exist in media production, the social-anthropological sector, and in the development of VR applications.
