Admission Requirements: What do you need for the Master's in Project Management
Completion of a first degree:
- For admission, you need a completed undergraduate degree (e.g., Bachelor's) - preferably with a focus on business or economics and a final grade of at least "satisfactory."
- The degree must have been obtained at a state-recognized university or college.
Required ECTS points from the first degree:
- 240 ECTS points: Direct access possible, a requirement is at least 1 year of qualified work experience after the first degree.
- 210 ECTS points: You take courses worth 30 ECTS points after or demonstrate at least 1 year of relevant work experience.
- 180 ECTS points: You have at least 1 year of work experience and complete 30 ECTS after or have at least 2 years of qualified work experience.
Work Experience:
- At least 1 year of relevant and qualified work experience is always required. Professional experience must be obtained after the bachelor's degree and must have content related to project management or related areas.
- Work experience from a dual study program may be recognized under certain circumstances if it is thematically related to the course of study.
For the 120-ECTS variant in 4 semesters, you can be admitted if you have a first degree with a focus on business or economics and a final grade of at least "satisfactory."
Starting the Master's despite a grade of "sufficient": With a Bachelor's degree (grade 3.5-4.0), admission is possible if further relevant achievements from a Master's/MBA program are available (at least 20 ECTS), a relevant Master's degree, or equivalent non-university qualifications are provided.
Non-related first degree: Applicants whose first degree did not have an explicit focus on business or economics can be admitted through a Master's entrance examination.
Language Skills:
- For the German-language variant: Proof of German language skills for foreign applicants, e.g., TestDaF, DSH, or Telc German B2.
- For the English-language variant: Proof of English language skills (e.g., TOEFL from 80 points, IELTS from level 6, Duolingo from 105 points, or Cambridge certificate at least grade B). Alternatively, IU offers a free English course as proof of language proficiency.
Alternative Master admission: Even without a traditional Bachelor's degree, you can be admitted under specific conditions, such as with a minimum of two years of vocational training and six years of work experience including managerial responsibilities and successful completion of a preparatory module at IU.
