With the interdisciplinary further education distance learning course Security Management - the first Master of this kind in Germany - the HWR Berlin is responding to the increasing qualification requirements in security-related professional fields.
Building on the already introduced Bachelor's degree program in Security Management in 2003, the first Bachelor's degree program with a distinct "Security Profile" offered at a German university, the Master's program sets new standards in academic training for corporate, commercial, and municipal security.
The qualification goals were developed in collaboration with executives from professional practice.
The Master's in Security Management qualifies for leadership roles in security-related professional fields and is characterized by a strong practical orientation.
The Master's program is offered as a distance learning course. Following the proven "Blended Learning" concept, self-study phases and concentrated face-to-face phases are carefully coordinated. Through the Moodle learning platform, which provides high-quality study materials and enables interactive learning - e.g. through discussion forums, wikis, online tasks - students are always connected with the instructors and their fellow students. During the approximately four face-to-face weekends per semester, the practical application and deepening of the acquired knowledge, as well as personal exchange with fellow students and instructors, are the focus.
The course content includes expertise and key competencies in the following areas:
Foundations of Risk and Crisis Management Legal, business management, and social science framework conditions for security management Integrated risk and security management in the economy Customer-oriented and competitive security services Integrated municipal security managementUpon successful completion, the internationally recognized academic degree of "Master of Arts" (MA) is awarded.
The Security Management Master's program can be completed either full-time (4 semesters) or part-time (8 semesters).
The duration of the study can be shortened by crediting qualified professional experience and equivalent examination-relevant study achievements to selected practical and theoretical modules - for this, a corresponding application must be submitted to the responsible examination board.
