Admission requirements
Completed studies with a standard period of study of at least six semesters at a university within the scope of the Basic Law in the following subjects:
- Economics (Bachelor, Diploma, Master)
- Economic Science (Bachelor, Diploma, Master)
- comparable subjects in which economic components, including auxiliary sciences (mathematics, statistics, business informatics, law), amount to at least 90 ECTS credits, of which at least 30 ECTS credits must be in economics and 10 ECTS credits in mathematical content, must be proven.

The Master's programme "Economics" is offered as a distance learning course by the FernUniversität in Hagen. The aim of the programme is to understand economic phenomena and developments, assess their overall societal consequences, and identify potential requirements and opportunities for economic policy control. The programme includes various standard and specialization modules to address the breadth and diversity of economic problem areas and the methodological pluralism in economics. Students have the opportunity to focus on specific fields or choose a broad range of specialized subjects.
Students are enabled to independently analyze economic issues and develop solutions. They receive a solid methodological training in economic thinking and its application to different sub-disciplines of the field. The programme is strongly oriented towards research and aims to involve participants in current research questions.
The curriculum comprises 120 credit points and consists of two compulsory areas and six elective modules. The two compulsory areas focus on deepening knowledge in economic mathematics and statistics, as well as the construction and analysis of economic models. The elective modules cover the areas of economics, business administration, and law. Additionally, there is a seminar and a master's thesis.
The programme targets various professional fields where previously Diplom-Volkswirte and Diplom-Ökonomen have been active, such as in private sector companies, banks, insurance companies, hospitals, non-profit organizations, the public sector, or international organizations. Moreover, the programme aims to qualify students for a doctoral degree and strengthen their ability to reflect on economic issues.
By engaging with content in the virtual learning environment, social skills such as communication and teamwork are enhanced. Overall, the Master's programme "Economics" provides students with a solid education with a strong focus on research, methods, and application in various economic areas.
