The Master of Science in Economics at the FernUniversität in Hagen is designed as a part-time distance learning course and lasts for four semesters. The programme offers a variety of business and economics modules, which allow students to deepen their chosen thematic focuses. In addition to professional competencies, they should also acquire key qualifications such as media or social skills.
Students have a great deal of freedom in selecting their modules to enable individual profile formation. The curriculum includes a total of eight elective modules, a seminar, and the master's thesis. At least one module in the areas of business administration, economics, and quantitative methods is mandatory. The master's thesis has a processing time of 12 weeks (or 18 weeks in part-time mode).
In addition to graduates in economics, students from related fields of study can also participate. Students should develop the ability to reflect on business and economic issues and prepare themselves for a wide range of career opportunities that are typically expected of economists.
The programme was accredited by the AQAS accreditation organisation on 1st October 2019 and is accredited until 30th September 2026. The evaluators agree that the distance learning course supports lifelong learning and ensures the quality of the programme. The curriculum offers students flexible adaptation of their course of study to individual needs and is regularly evaluated.
